Post Binary
POST-BINARISME est un terme proposé par Camille Circlude pour dépasser la binarité de genre et de pensée, et proposer un modèle d’alliance et de pluralité plutôt que d’inclusion au système en place.
POST-BINARISM is a term proposed by Camille Circlude to go beyond the binarity of gender and thought, and propose a model of alliance and plurality rather than inclusion in the existing system.
On parle déjà de « non binarisme » dans le langage courant pour définir le refus de correspondre à un genre définit et définitif, masculin ou féminin. Mais dans ce cas « non binaire » devient d’une part une définition par la négative, bien limitante, et d’autre part une nouvelle norme, un troisième genre un peu trop rangé déjà.
Le « post » est donc ici bien choisi. Le post-binarisme est plutôt une position au monde qui refuse de se normer. C’est une réaction au conformisme, la politique du pas de côté, toujours, pour éviter la récupération. Le post-binarisme invite à une nouvelle approche dans la recherche du « corps humain vivant » ( une nouvelle épistémologie nous dirait Paul B. Préciado*) en dehors de tout système binaire (et non en réaction ou par rapport au système binaire).
The term « non-binarism » is already used in everyday language to define the refusal to fit into a definitive, masculine or feminine gender. But in this case « non-binary » becomes on the one hand a definition in the negative, which is very limiting, and on the other hand a new norm, a third gender that is already a little too tidy.
The word “post” is well chosen here. Post-binarism is more a position in the world that refuses to be normalised. It’s a reaction to conformism, a policy of stepping aside, always, to avoid recuperation. Post-binarism invites a new approach to the search for the « living human body » (a new epistemology, as Paul B. Préciado* would say), outside any binary system (and not in reaction to or in relation to the binary system).

Le post-binarisme ouvre une voie de possibles plutôt que de refus, c’est un choix délibéré de la pluralité, et une alliance offerte pour l’écriture d’une vie souhaitée.
Appliqué à la typographie le post-binarisme appelle donc de ses voeux à une écriture fluide et queer qui ne se réduit pas à un point méditant inclusif entre deux genres bien sages.
Post-binarism opens up a path of possibilities rather than of refusal; it is a deliberate choice of plurality, and an alliance offered for the writing of a desired life.
Applied to typography, post-binarism calls for a fluid, queer style of writing that is not reduced to an inclusive meditative point between two well-behaved genres.
