Misopédie
La misopédie est un mépris des enfants. Dérivé de la misogynie (mépris voire haine des femmes) le terme vise à poser un mot sur un adultisme structurel au sein d’une société. La misopédie est encore souvent inconsciente ou justifiée par un rapport domination non conscientisé. Elle fait état d’un rejet d’une partie de la population (les enfants) avec cela de particulier que tout un chacun à fait part de cette minorité et donc expérimenté ce point de vue situé.
Misopedism is contempt for children. Derived from misogyny (contempt or even hatred of women), the term aims to describe structural adultism within society. Misopedism is often unconscious or justified by an unconscious relationship of domination. It reflects the rejection of a section of the population (children), with the particularity that everyone has been part of this minority and therefore experienced this particular point of view.
La misopédie a été formulée par la chercheuse Cécile Kovacshazy, qui souligne que si la misopédie n’est pas universelle, elle est assez répandue, et varie selon les lieux et les époques. Elle se caractérise par l’imposition par les adultes de gestes, comportements, discours oppresseurs et inadaptés aux enfants (rester assis à un âge de besoin d’activité physique, horaires pour uriner, punitions, chantages, menaces, moqueries, relativisme émotionnel etc.) au nom de l’éducation (disons plutôt de la socialisation à un monde normé).
Misopedics was formulated by researcher Cécile Kovacshazy, who emphasizes that while misopedics is not universal, it is fairly widespread and varies according to place and time. It is characterized by adults imposing oppressive and inappropriate gestures, behaviors, and speech on children (keeping them seated at an age when they need physical activity, scheduling when they can use the bathroom, punishments, blackmail, threats, mockery, emotional relativism, etc.) in the name of education (or rather, socialization into a standardized world).
La chercheuse Cecile Kovacshazy souligne l’absence particulièrement flagrante des enfants dans le cercle de considération des recherches sur l’âgisme (discrimination selon l’âge) et les éthiques du care. Un prochain colloque international dédié aux représentations misopèdes (et enfantistes) dans la littérature et l’art contemporain sera organisé les 8 et 9 octobre 2026 à l’Université de Limoges.
Researcher Cecile Kovacshazy highlights the particularly glaring absence of children in research on ageism (age discrimination) and care ethics. An upcoming international conference dedicated to misoped (and childish) representations in contemporary literature and art will be held on October 8 and 9, 2026, at the University of Limoges.
