Performative wokeness
PERFORMATIVE WOKENESS est un terme péjoratif faisant référence à l’activisme réalisé pour augmenter son capital social plutôt que par dévouement à une cause. Il est souvent associé à un activisme de surface, appelé “slacktivisme” critique de l’engagement dit “trop facile” à poster un soutien sur internet sans avoir en parallèle une attitude engagée au quotidien (manifestations, changement de mode de vie, engagement associatif etc.)
L’expression est de plus en plus utilisée sur les médias sociaux à la suite des événements de Minneapolis, bien qu’elle soit antérieure au meurtre de George Floyd par un policier en 2020 et puisse s’étendre à d’autres causes.
PERFORMATIVE WOKENESS is a pejorative term referring to activism carried out to increase one’s social capital rather than out of dedication to a cause. It is often associated with surface activism, called “slacktivism”, which is critical of the “too easy” commitment to post support on the internet without having a parallel committed attitude to everyday life (demonstrations, lifestyle changes, community involvement etc.).
The term is increasingly used on social media following the events in Minneapolis, although it predates the murder of George Floyd by a police officer in 2020 and can be extended to other causes.
la PERFORMATIVITÉ est le fait, pour un signe linguistique de réaliser lui-même ce qu’il énonce. On dit alors que le signe est “performatif”. Le fait d’utiliser un de ces signes fait (ferait?) advenir une réalité. En art, c’est le fameux “je suis artiste parce que je dis que je suis artiste”. (Et ça, depuis Marcel Duchamp)
PERFORMATIVE is the fact that a linguistic sign itself achieves what it states. The sign is then said to be “performative”. The fact of using one of these signs makes (would make?) a reality happen.
